What’s in your daypack?

joda_68 asked:

I have a backpack that I carry when I’m planning on being out all day that has a lightweight fleece sleeping bag, dry socks, a couple of MRE’s, a space blanket, lightweight raingear, spare binoculars, a water filtering bottle, etc. But what is in the smaller pack that you take even to push a 100 yard stand of brush? Mountain man asked earlier about a broken stock, and several people said they didn’t carry duct tape and such with them. It got me wondering if people still go out into the woods without any survival gear at all.
So, what do you carry everywhere you go in the woods? My small pack has duct tape wrapped flat around a 2×3 piece of cardboard, a pencil wrapped with mono, a pill bottle with vaseline soaked cotton balls, another pill bottle with fish hooks, a needle, waterproof strike anywhere matches, iodine tablets and ibuprofen. A spare knife, a bic lighter, a mirror, a couple of extra rounds, a few bandages, a small bottle of gorilla glue, a compass, a wind up flashlight, a very thin tarp, wet-naps from KFC, alcohol pads, 2 ‘hothands’, a boresnake, a black plastic garbage bag, a few tea bags, 2 salt packets, 2 ketchup packets, and a couple of granola bars. The whole bag probably weighs less than 2 pounds, and fits on my belt opposite my holster.
